Treatment for: Hair removal
Thanks to advances in science and technology there is now a lasting solution for unwanted hair. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) now plays a key role in hair removal with outstanding results. Reflections Dermatology is proud to offer some of the finest in laser hair removal technology for people of all skin types using the Palomar Starlux Platform.
How it works:
 Laser hair removal works by directing concentrated pulses of light to a group of hair follicles, using enough power to disable or destroy the root responsible for hair growth without harming the surrounding skin. During your treatment, your provider will move an IPL (intense pulsed light) handpiece over your skin, pulsing it all the while. Each pulse will send a beam of light through your skin. A flashing light, an audible tone, and a mild sensation on the skin will tell you when the handpiece is being pulsed. Small areas such as the underarms or bikini area, can be treated in 10-15 minutes while larger areas such as the back or legs, can be treated in approximately 30 minutes. Various cooling methods keep the light-pulses mild and skin-safe, allowing for more comfortable treatments than electrolysis or waxing. Unlike waxing, there is no need to let hair grow out between treatments. You can remain hair-free all the time.
What to expect:
Immediately after the treatment, you can expect a mild sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied be some minor swelling.  This usually lasts 2-24 hours, and can be soothed with cold gel or ice packs. The treated hair will continue to appear for 7-30 days post-treatment. This is not new hair growth, but the treated hairs being expelled from the skin. At any given time, some of your hair is not in a phase of active growth. Therefore, you will need several treatments to affect the growth of all your unwanted hair. Typically 6-8 treatments will be necessary to achieve permanent hair reduction.
Prior to your treatment:
• Do not tan for 1 week
• Shave the treatment area the day before
• Do not wax or tweeze the treatment area for 2 weeks
